Beach & Boardwalk Rules

The 10-mile stretch of beach in Ocean City is free and open to the public from 6 a.m. to 10 p.m. The remaining hours are used to clean the beach. No private vehicles are allowed on the beach at any time. Ocean City Beach Patrol members are on duty from 10 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. daily all summer long to ensure your safety. Please obey them when you are on the beach.

Animals are not allowed on the beach at any time between May 1 and September30. Dogs must be leashed at all times in Ocean City.

The 2.9 mile Boardwalk stretches from the Inlet in South Ocean City to 27th Street. To ensure the safety of this heavily traveled walkway, certain regulations are in effect during the summer months. Please follow all of the rules on the Boardwalk signs.


Recreation Facilities

The Ocean City Recreation and Parks Department boasts a wide variety of parks and recreation facilities. From boat ramps to basketball courts, Ocean City has it all. Most facilities are free and open to the public.

For those interested in fishing and boating, there are three public boat ramps and four public fishing piers in the area. Fifteen volleyball courts are set up on the beach for the summer and are open to everyone at no charge. Public tennis courts are scattered throughout Ocean City and can be reserved Memorial Day through Labor Day. Two racquetball courts and four basketball courts, including one indoor, can be found on our island. Public parks with a variety of features are spread from the Inlet to 142nd Street.

The Ocean City Parks and Recreation Department may have just what you need from equipment reservations and fields to picnic areas and volleyball courts. For more specific information, please call their office at 410-250-0125.

Transportation in Ocean City

Ocean City Municipal Bus Service

For just $2, ride the bus anywhere in Ocean City, all day as many times as you wish, from the Inlet to the Delaware State Line. The service runs every day, 24 hours each day. Exact change ($2) is required. Discount books (10 rides for $15) may be purchased at the Boardwalk Tram North Booth (27th Street and Boardwalk), City Hall (3rd Street and Baltimore Avenue), Convention Center Box Office (40th Street and Coastal Highway) Ocean City Police Department (65th Street and Coastal Highway) and the Ocean City Parks and Recreation Complex/Northside (125th Street and Coastal Highway).

Municipal buses follow a route south along Coastal Highway and Philadelphia Avenue to South Division Street, where they make a stop at the Transit Center. They then travel north on Baltimore Avenue to 15th Street, turning left and continuing north on Coastal Highway to the Delaware line.

Boardwalk Tram

The Boardwalk Tram operates from the Inlet to 27th Street, a distance of 2.5 miles along the scenic Boardwalk. Trams begin or end their route at the north (27th Street) or south (Inlet) stations.

Trams begin operations at 10 a.m. and end at midnight seven days a week during the summer season and during Springfest and Sunfest weekends. Weekend-only service is offered beginning Easter weekend and continues until approximately May 15 and again during the month of October. Weekend-only hours are from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m.

Tram fare is $2.50 for one-way passage only. The Boardwalk tram will stop at any location along the route to load or discharge passengers. You may request the tram to stop at any location along the route should you so desire a ride.

Parking Rules

Parking is available in city lots, private lots and on certain public streets unless otherwise noted. Ample free parking is available at the Park & Ride in West Ocean City. Park your car for the day and take the city bus for $1 into Ocean City. This shuttle service operates from the Park& Ride to the South Division Street Transit Center where passengers can disembark or catch a northbound bus for an additional $1.
