Learning Activities
Arrive
in Ocean City. Spend your evening relaxing with a walk down
the Boardwalk, a pizza party and indoor minature golf at Old
Pro Golf.
Experience
history and culture in Snow Hill, founded in 1642 by English
settlers. The Julia A. Purnell Museum offers interpretive
historic exhibits of apparel, tools and machinery, dating
from the prehistoric ages through the early 20th century.
Students will take part in an old-fashioned school lesson
at the Mount Zion One-Room School Museum. After a box lunch
picnic at Sturgis Park, discover the unique flora and fauna
of the Cypress Swamp while taking a short riverboat cruise
along the Pocomoke River.
A visit
to Furnace Town will include a guided tour and demonstrations
to learn what life was like in an 1840s iron manufacturing
village. Visit the artisan shops including a woodwoking shop,
garden area, broom house, blacksmith shop, print shop and
weaving area. The neighboring Nature Conservancy provides
a short walking trail over the Nassawango Cypress Swamp. Upon
returning to Ocean City, stop to eat at one of our famous
buffets.
Step back
in time at Ocean City's Life-Saving Museum with deepsea treasures
recovered from shipwrecks and other nautical exhibits, and
compare bathing suits dated from the 1900s to more modern
fashions. Walk a few steps down the boardwalk and explore
Ripley's Believe It or Not! Museum, based on the hit TV show.
See exciting and bizarre exhibits that you can't see anywhere
else.
Next,
it's off to Assateague Island, a barrier island featuring
nature trail walks, hands-on activites and special demonstrations
that can be geared to any age. Enjoy a barbeque on the beach!
Return to Ocean City for entertainment and dining at Planet
Maze. Older students may enjoy a team-building game of laser
tag.
